Lena Maria Jonna Olin comes from Stockholm, Sweden. She's her home-country's actress and has been active for almost 35 years. Swedish beauty recently turned 55 on 22.3.2010. Both of her parents were actors, so it was only logical that Lena will follow in their footsteps. Before appearing in front of the lens, she concentrated on studying and finished as one of the highest ranking student. When she was only 20, she won a title of Miss Scandinavia, next door in Finland.
She wanted to be a nurse first and also assisted in teaching, but the stage took over and for good 14 years(until mid nineties) she was with Sweden's Royal Dramatic Theatre. Her first break to wider popularity came to life when Ingmar Bergman invited her to try for Face to Face but she didn't get that role. What followed are a string in his other productions until she appeared in After the Rehearsal ('84).
First time she appeared in front of the audience world wide was in The Unbearable Lightness of Being. This made her more famous and offers kept coming in. Last year in the eighties got her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for the role in Enemies: A Love Story. Her directing debut came in Chocolat ('00) which was nominated 5 times for the awards. Lena Olin also appeared in Alias , TV series for 4 years until '06, Queen of the Damned ('02), Darkness ('02), Casanova ('05) and lastly Remember Me ('10) amongst many others.
On a personal front, she has a son with her partner from the '70's / 80's. In mid nineties, she got hitched to Lasse Hallstrom and produced a baby girl a year after their wedding. Her hubby, Lena, their daughter together, and their 2 kids from past flings, live together in NY.
